Who is Ronald McDonald House Charities?

The Ronald McDonald House mission is to provide a home-away-from-home for families with seriously ill/injured children. It costs almost $100 per night for a family to stay at RMHC, but families are only ever asked to pay $15, or a donation of their choosing. No family is ever turned away because they can’t pay, it is our philanthropy events that help cover the cost of the families’ stays!

Alpha Delta Pi and Ronald McDonald House Partnership

Alpha Delta Pi adopted Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) as our international philanthropy in 1979. One of our own Delta Delta sisters, Joanne Henthorne Kirlin, suggested that the RMHC should be our international philanthropy. Since that time, Alpha Delta Pi collegians and alumnae have raised over $12.6 million to help provide a home away from home for the families. Our chapter is fortunate to be located only 10 minutes away from the Fayetteville Ronald McDonald Family Room and 20 minutes away from the RMHC House in Rogers. We help our local home by donating to their monthly wishlist, cooking dinners, collecting pop tabs and cleaning the house throughout the year. We donated the reading rooms in both the Rogers and Fort Smith locations as well as the reception rea in the Fayetteville location. We are grateful to have an RMHC so close because we are one of the only chapters that get to work hands-on with their philanthropy!

The Delta Delta Chapter of the University of Arkansas has many opportunities to give back to the Ronald McDonald House. Every year we have an event called Pi Day which is in the spring. We set up picnic blankets in our front yard and sell pies and drinks. There’s always live music, people bring their dogs and it’s a great event that brings everyone together to support RMHC. During Pi Day we have an event called “Pie-a-President” where Presidents of other Greek Life or Student Organizations on campus have the chance to be pied by their members! The Chancellor, Student Body President and Greek Life Director also support Pi Day by getting pied! Philanthropy events are a great way for all of Greek Life to get involved and help each other to raise money for each of our philanthropies. We are so thankful to have such a close Greek Life family at the University of Arkansas!

The Delta Delta Chapter raised about $40,000 for RMHC during the 2022-2023 school year and many hours volunteering with RMHC: making meals, cleaning and doing crafts/activities, welcoming guests to a hospital Family Room, and visiting with patients and family members. We don’t only give back to the RMHC, we also volunteer at our local Fayetteville community. Many Alpha Delta Pi sisters volunteer with the local Fayetteville Animal Shelter, Boys and Girls Club, World Changers, Habitat for Humanity, Girl Scouts, and Meals on Wheels! Between the Ronald McDonald House, these organizations, and more, Delta Delta has donated over $40,000 as well as over 3,000 hours of service.
